Ganglion cysts appear as small round bags filled with liquid on joints or tendons.
Their size varies – they can either be pea-sized or grow up to an inch in diameter.
The common symptoms of ganglion cysts are pain and discomfort along with tingling sensation, numbness and muscle weakness.
Depending on the size, they can be either firm or spongy. The exact cause of their appearance is not yet known, but damage to the joints or tendons are considered as possible causes.
Ganglion cysts usually occur in people aged 15-40, and are more common in women who are gymnasts due to the pressure in their wrists. People suffering from osteoarthritis or joint and tendon injuries are more prone to the cysts. Surgical removal is almost always the recommended treatment, but some homemade natural remedies can also help in these cases.

Black tea bags
Black tea bags have acidic properties which can prevent the ganglion cysts from getting worse. The anti-inflammatory properties of black tea will provide relief from the pain and swelling.
Put a black tea bag in warm water for 5 minutes, then squeeze it from the excess water and apply it on the swollen area for 10 minutes. Repeat the process several times daily for 2-3 days.
Frankincense oil
This oil is an active astringent which can reduce the size of the cysts and prevent their recurrence. Apply a couple of drops of frankincense oil on your cyst, then cover it with a bandage. Repeat the process every day and always use a clean bandage until you see improvements.
Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera has anti-inflammatory properties which can accelerate the healing of the cyst and will reduce the pain and swelling as well. Get some Aloe Vera gel and apply it on the affected area, leaving it to work for 20 minutes. Afterwards, wash the area with warm water, and repeat the process twice a day for 2-3 days.
Arnica oil

Arnica is a powerful anti-inflammatory agent that will reduce the pain and swelling caused by the ganglion cyst. Dilute some arnica essential oil in an equal amount of olive or coconut oil, then apply the mixture on the painful area, wrapping it with a bandage. Repeat the process 2-3 times a day for several days, but be careful with the arnica oil – some people can be very sensitive to it.
Epsom salt
Epsom salt is a powerful healing agent that will heal the ganglion cyst in only a couple of days. Mix a tablespoon of the salt in 1-2 cups of warm water, then soak the painful area in the mixture for 20-30 minutes a day and repeat the process for a couple of days.
You can minimize the symptoms of ganglion cysts by eating anti-inflammatory foods such as ginger, turmeric, salmon, etc. If the cyst size doesn’t increase after these natural treatments, you should visit a doctor in order to resolve the problem.
