COMMON CAUSES AND REMEDIES FOR WATER RETENTION

Water retention does not mean that you have consumed too much water. According to the World Health Organization, adult men should consume 3.7 liters daily, while adult women 2.7 liters, but 30% of people do not drink enough water.
If in case you suffer from water retention, then you probably have too much sodium in your bloodstream, or have moved too little. Medications, hormone changes, or heart and kidney issues, can also contribute to the problem. Drinking less water will not solve the issue, but dehydration can do more harm.
Home remedies to treat the condition.
– Replace salt with herbs. A major cause of water retention is excess sodium. To treat water retention and prevent it from returning in the future, OL Women recommends developing the habit of replacing all salt with tasty, nutrient-rich herbs like oregano, rosemary, thyme, and chives.

-Garlic – it helps in cleaning the body of toxins and relieves water retention. Eat 1-2 cloves on an empty stomach each morning, and if the smell is nauseating to you, you may to try blending it in a smoothie.
-Cranberry juice. Like parsley tea, cranberry juice is a natural diuretic that helps flush excess water, says Times of India. Be careful to opt for 100 percent natural cranberry juice and limit your intake or dilute with water, as cranberry juice can be high in sugar.
-Bananas, spinach, and dates – you can mix these ingredients to make a great smoothie. Yu can even throw in some strawberries, apples, raspberries, or bell peppers as they are high in potassium, and potassium deficiency is a cause of water retention.
-Cut out sweets. Diabetics are at a higher risk for water retention. This is because water retention is partly caused by insulin’s inability to flush the body of sodium. OL Women, therefore, urges people suffering from water retention to cut out all sugars from their diets while they are treating themselves for water retention and to reduce sugar intake in their everyday diets.
-Parsley tea – try homemade parsley tea as it works as a diuretic to flush out excess water. Coffee will dehydrate you, but parsley tea won’t. Consume it 3-4 times a day by just pouring boiling water over springs of fresh parsley.

-Raise your feet. WebMD recommends lying down with your feet raised above the heart. This helps move fluid out of the feet and ankles. Be sure, however, to counter this treatment with exercise to keep the fluid flowing.
-Walk, swim, and cycle – for water retention preventing you should include daily exercises. Sweat will remove the excess water from the body, and will also remove toxins and excess sodium. This will keep the fluids in motion. Find some activities you will enjoy such as gardening, dancing, or Frisbee, or incorporate 30 minute walk after dinner.
