This Lamp Absorbs 150-200 Times More CO2 Than A Tree!


The fight against climate change and the never ending battle to reduce the amount of air pollution have recently been giving a helping hand by strange, green-glowing lamps that consume carbon dioxide and emit bright, clear light.

Pierre Calleja, a biochemist from France has successfully created an eco-friendly lamp that can light up streets, roads, parking lots and even our homes. This is all while cutting down on CO2 emissions.
As the lamp is powered only by a tube, tightly filled with glowing green microalgae, it requires no electricity to work, instead relying on the innate energy during the algae’s photosynthetic process to produce the natural light. The algae thrives in the CO2 rich air.
The lamp has also been designed in such a way that it has the ability to store the light in a kinetic way. This means that when the lamp is introduced to low-light areas, it will emit light without any external need for a power source.

Just one of these incredible lamps can absorb a ton of carbon from the air in just one year – the same amount as 150 or 200 trees!
The potential these lamps have to offer is enormous and they are one step in the right direction to helping control climate change.
One of Calleja’s lamps has already been commisioned and it helps to light up a parking lot in Bordeaux, France.
Calleja has found an enormous amount of uses for microalgae. He and his team are currently experimenting with microalgae for different kinds of applications. Ranging from organic cosmetic materials to a future sustainable source of Omega 3 supplement, the team is constantly endeavouring to push the boundaries of what is possible. Calleja says he and his team have also figured out how to harness microalgae as a source of biofuel.
