BE CAREFUL ! LEMON WATER IS DESTROYING YOUR TEETH !!!

The health benefits of drinking Lemon Water first thing in the morning are:
-Lemons are high in antioxidants (including: vitamin C (ascorbic acid), beta-carotenes, lutein and zeaxanthin). Antioxidants protect cells from free radical damage and reactive oxygen species
-The antioxidants and phytochemicals in lemons support renewal of liver cells
-Limonene, found in considerable amounts in lemon peel, enhances Phase 1 Liver detoxification (so always throw in a couple of slices of lemon with the peel on into your warm lemon water!)
-The high amounts of vitamin C in lemons, supports Glutathione conjugation which is also part of Phase 2 Liver detoxification

-The warm water helps to keep the body hydrated and support healthy elimination
-Lemon aids the elimination of toxins from the body as it is a diuretic as well as a diaphoretic – stimulating both urination and perspiration
-While lemons are acidic outside of the body, inside the body they become alkaline, which helps to balance pH levels in the body and prevent disease
-The high levels of vitamin C in lemons supports a strong immune system
-The vitamin C helps the body to metabolise cholesterol to bile acids which may have implications for blood cholesterol levels and the incidence of gallstones.
Lemon water is very popular drink in the morning, but unfortunately it is highly acidic (with a pH between 2 and 3) and therefore can contribute to enamel erosion or tooth wear over time.
Adding sugar into the drink is worse. Lemon juice can cause erosion and sugar increases the risk of tooth decay.
Even now when you know that lemon water may damage your teeth, you shouldn’t give up on it so easily. There are a few tips that can reduce the risk of erosion on your teeth:
-Drink cold instead of warm lemon water – this will reduce the available acid that touches your teeth;

-Drink your warm lemon water through a glass straw which are easily available on the internet. Do not use a soft plastic straw as you risk exposure to chemicals and toxins in the plastic when drinking a warm drink;
-Drink your lemon water before or 30 minutes after your brush your teeth – as the acid in the lemons weakens tooth enamel and it can be removed when you brush your teeth
-Use lemon essential oil instead of lemons – it has all the health benefits and reduces the risk of damaged teeth. A drop or two per glass should be enough.
