DNA Study: Chicken Served In Subway Is Less Than 50% Real Chicken

The chicken in your Subway chicken sandwich contains very little chicken meat. In fact, it mostly just contains soy. (Can you say, “GMO”?)

As Fox New reports:
“A recent study conducted by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation has found that the sandwich chain’s chicken meat contains about only about 50 percent chicken DNA — or about half as much as fresh chicken from a supermarket.”
The findings were part of a larger survey examining chicken items from several different fast food chains that operate in Canada, including Wendy’s, McDonald’s, Tim Hortons and A&W– but it was Subway’s results that were most surprising to researchers.”
When the initial tests came back so low, they were run again. Once you start to season, marinate and process meat, the amount of chicken DNA is expected to lower.
But not that much; turns out that Subway’s oven roasted chicken registered at just 53.6 percent and its chicken strips scored even lower- containing just 42.8 percent chicken DNA (most of the meat from Subway’s competitors was shown to contain 85 to 90 percent chicken DNA).

This isn’t the first time Subway has had problems. Back in 2014 Subway faced a lot of backlash when it was revealed that the bread in their sandwiches contained a chemical commonly found in yoga mats and other rubbers.
They acted fast then, but somehow still thought no one would notice that their “healthy chicken option” was just mostly soy? A product that is decidedly NOT good…especially for women!
Subway has questioned the results of the tests and said in a statement:
“Subway Canada cannot confirm the veracity of the results of the lab testing you had conducted. However, we are concerned by the alleged findings you cite with respect to the proportion of soy content.”
But that wasn’t all. The testing done at Subway revealed other concerns:

“[O]nce the ingredients [were] factored in, the fast food chicken had about a quarter less protein than you would get in its home-cooked equivalent. And overall, the sodium levels were between seven and 10 times what they would be in a piece of unadulterated chicken.”
If you haven’t already stopped eating there, maybe it’s time. Or maybe- just have a salad.
