Tonsil stones are the white spots that sometimes appear on the tonsils. Tonsil stones appear as a result of accumulated dead skin, food particles, bacteria and mucus. They have very fragile structure and yellow or white color. They can cause some medical problems like bad breath, pain on the throat, breathing and swallowing difficulties.
People who have chronic inflammations, bad oral hygiene and large tonsils are more exposed to the risk of developing tonsil stones. This medical problem is usually treated surgically by removing the tonsils. The procedure is called tonsillectomy. Removing the tonsils it doesn’t guarantee you that they won`t appear again. On the other hand, removing the tonsils can cause other medical problems because you are taking out one vital part of the immune system that protects the body and prevents the development of viruses and bacteria.

Fortunately, you can remove the tonsil stones at home by performing not so invasive methods.
The best methods for removing tonsil stones are:
  • Oral irrigator
The oral irrigator works the same like string flossing. It has flosser, water stone and engine.  Place the spout over the so-called pockets on the tonsils and gently blow, so the stones can get out of them.
  • Q-tips
Place a q-tip on the stones and gently apply firm pressure to get the stones out of the pockets.
  • Oral probiotics
Oral probiotic can eliminate the bacteria in the mouth which are responsible for development of tonsil stones. You can take the probiotic supplements S. Salivarius K12 for eliminating the stones. You need to mix the probiotic with 4 oz. warm water and take a sip.  Tilt the head so the mixture can reach the tonsils. Hold it for 10 – 15 seconds and spit it out. Repeat the treatment couple of times a day. Also you can eliminate tonsil stones by chewing gums and with toothpaste.  This method will help you treat the tonsil stones and also the other issues caused by the tonsil stones.
  • Dental irrigation syringes
This method is very similar to the q-tips. The syringes work the same. Point the tip of the syringe at the tonsil`s crevices and squeeze the solution. This will remove also the tonsil stones which are not visible. The solution is made with 3% hydrogen peroxide and water in equal parts. This mixture and this process will also disinfect the tonsils.
